Every spring, roads are posted for weight restrictions to prevent road damage due to the spring thaw. Posted roads are marked with bright orange signs that list the maximum weight limit (usually 23,000 pounds).

Food items collected are distributed to families in several towns within Cumberland and York counties, including Buxton.

Donations for the food drive can be dropped off at the Buxton Town Hall during regular business hours through the month of September. Thank you in advance for your donations!

The Town of Buxton Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025 at 9 AM at Buxton Town Hall. Voters must be present to vote on warrant articles. Absentee voting is not permitted for the Annual Town Meeting.

There are several openings available! Please see the attached flyer for additional information.

On July 1st, the Buxton Transfer Station transitioned to a single-sort recycling facility. This means that when residents drop off their recyclables, they will ALL be thrown into what used to be the trash compacter. It’s important for our residents to understand that we have repurposed the trash compactor into a single-sort recycling compactor. This area is now for recyclables only – not trash!

All recyclables including paper, cardboard, glass, and all plastics numbered 1 through 7 are now mixed and placed in the compacter. We do ask that residents keep metal cans separate if possible as this helps increase our metal income.

If you have any questions about how your recyclables are handled, please ask! We’re happy to explain the new single-sort system to you. Representatives from ecomaine will be on-site at the Transfer Station on Thursday, August 7th from 8 am – 12 pm to answer any questions about the changes. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to implement our new system and thank all the residents of Buxton for their recycling efforts.

Join us for a discussion of Salmon Falls West (Hollis) and Salmon Falls East (Buxton) National Historic Districts. What compromises a National Historic District? What buildings are included? Who were the people who created these districts? What are the misconceptions about owning a home in a National Historic District? BHHS President, Nancy Ponzetti, will be the presenter for this program.

Firewood banks are community-based organizations which provide free emergency and seasonal wood for home heating assistance. They are run entirely by volunteers who help split, stack, and store wood for pickup or delivery.

The Maine Wood Bank Network has a safety coordinator who will train volunteers to safely utilize equipment such as chainsaws and log splitters.

This program provides eligible low-income adults the opportunity to receive a share (worth $50) of first-quality, fresh, local produce at no cost directly from local Maine farmers during the growing season.

Job requires some manual labor duties which include lifting, shoveling, raking and operating chainsaws, large trucks, and other equipment as assigned.

Experience with snow plowing, use of heavy equipment, high school diploma or equivalent GED, and an active Maine Class B CDL is required. Class A preferred. Applicants must have and maintain a clean driving record.

The pay rate is $20.84 - $22.34 per hour, depending on experience.

If you have received a suspicious invoice that appears to be from the Town of Buxton Appeals Board or Planning Board, please do not pay this invoice. The Town of Buxton has been made aware of fraudulent attempts to take money from Buxton residents and businesses who have recently submitted applications to the Appeals Board and Planning Board.

In this scam, the victim receives a fake invoice by email stating unpaid fees are owed to process their application. The scammers have included correct information from public sources on the invoice, making it appear legitmate including names and addresses. The invoices also include the Town of Buxton seal, making the invoice appear more authentic.

The Town of Buxton has not sent these emails. The Town will never ask for fees to be paid by wire transfer. All emails originating from the Town of Buxton have an email address ending with “@buxton.me.us”. If you have any questions, please call the Town Hall at 207-929-5191.

The Town Hall has had a food table setup for residents in need since the end of October. Food and monetary donations were steady for the first couple of months. However, donations have been very limited since the holiday season. Our table is almost empty.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring a safe environment for all programs.
• Assist in accepting program registrations.
• Hold office hours.
• Help Aid in the management of adult and childcare Programs.
• Help Aid in the development of new and innovative youth and adult enrichment programs for Buxton residents.
• Oversee proper use and storage of all program equipment.
• Purchase program supplies as approved by Recreation Director
• Maintain communication with parents, guardians, and program participants.
• Assist in the supervision of other recreation programs as needed.

Workplace Environment

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions and temperatures.
• Work is performed in a moderate to considerably noisy environment.

The Town of Buxton is soliciting bids for one 2005 GMC 8500 Plow Truck. The mileage is 102,345. This vehicle does not run. The transformers will be leaving Rumery Road in South Portland at approximately 9 PM. They will travel down Route 1, utilizing both lanes of travel. State police will be escorting and closing the road in accordance with the needs of the move. The transformers will turn onto Broadturn Road in Scarborough and travel to Route 22 in Buxton to Skip Road. They will travel on Skip Road until Emery Circle and travel down Emery Circle to the CMP access road. They will be traveling extremely slow at 5-8 miles per hour. The move is expected to take 5-7 hours.
