Aging In Buxton Updates

Hello everyone,

We wanted to share an update on aginginbuxton with all of you. We have been very busy building the program and getting more volunteers so services can be provided to residents in Buxton. The services benefit everyone in town !

 Here are some highlights:

1. TRANSPORTATION:  Our 4 volunteer drivers have provided over 1000 miles of rides to medical appointments. We are reaching out to other agencies to increase access to more rides. We have more people calling …

2. Housing:  We worked with Saco agefriendlycommunity to obtain an $85,000 grant for home improvement , in the form of safety additions , to homes here. The grant also covered Saco, Biddeford, Arundel and smaller towns in York County.Saco River tv produced an incredible PSA for us which is still airing. We are working with Window Dressers to have inner storm windows built and installed to reduce heating bills for our residents.

3. Outdoor spaces: We met with a teacher and Facility Director at the Middle School to discuss the greenhouse, raised bed gardens and a possible expansion plan. We have been asked to supply a “harvest theme “ planting in the Fall, 2023 with discussions ongoing for next summer.

4. Social participation: We coordinated with Wayside Foods to obtain Senior foodboxes from the USDA. We started in April, 2023 , with 10 and we now are providing non- perishable and fresh produce to 65 families in Buxton. The Department of Public Works has opened its garage to us,on the once monthly deliveries, to protect everyone against the elements.

5. Respect and Inclusion:  We continue  to advocate for our residents in many ways. We provided a display at the Wellness Fair in the Town Hall in April.

We provided a Clean Up  Day , in town, for Earth Day. We have attended multiple Webinars, conferences and trainings through AARP, University of Maine’s Program on Aging and local agefriendlycommunity activities.

This is only a small sample of what aginginbuxton can provide. We would love more volunteers!

Which project would you like to work on?  Do you have more ideas for programs you want to see here? We have one volunteer who wants to revive the Buxton News. Who would like to help supply news articles and cooperate in that endeavor? Who has computer skills they would like to share? Any amount of time is welcomed! Please contact us at
