Genealogy Information and Requests
The Town of Buxton is fortunate to have a great deal of research material and records available dating back to 1748.  We have Marriages indexed from 1777 to the present, Family Records dating from 1748 to 1892, and our Vital Statistics, (containing births, deaths, and marriages) which are also indexed from 1892 to the present.

We have Cemetery Records which consist of information listed on the Monuments, and Burial Permits for the present years back to 1926.  Some of the early burial permits are missing.

Our Valuations and Inventories date back to the mid-1700s. These contain information on land, buildings, livestock, equipment, etc..  We are still in the process of restoring records from 1945 to the mid-1960s.  Also available are Militia Records, School Records, and Road Records.

We encourage people to do their own research and allow them to use the volumes under supervision. We supply a table, chairs, etc.  The staff will make photocopies of most records.  However, we do not like to photocopy from our handwritten Family Record Volumes.  Copies of these records are available in large notebooks that can be photocopied. We have a library of family histories, and town histories, that were donated to the town and are available for research.  We can supply a list of these histories upon request.

Also available are copies of two restored Daniel Dennett Maps:

  • 1852-53 Map with Homeowners' Names  $8.00
  • 1870 Range Map (Proceeds go to Buxton-Hollis Historical Society)  $10.00

A copy of these maps is available for viewing, and photocopying sections, if needed.
